Lower Ennstal

Lower Ennstal
Quite well established name for the Enns valley below the Gesaeuse, which is also still common for the larger Upper Austrian parts. Due to its location below the terminal moraines of the Wuerm Age Enns glacier, the valley is filled with mighty, widely conglomerated fluvioglacial gravel, into which the river itself is deepened like a canyon. The terraces supporting the settlements are thus strongly isolated from each other, which in a certain sense makes it problematic to combine them into a single valley. The boundary line was drawn rather strictly, largely at the upper edge of the Wuerm period corridors. (Author: Prof. Mag. Dr. Gerhard Karl LIEB)
