Definition:
Well-established name for the mighty limestone high alpine massif of the plateau mountain range type, which culminates in Hochschwab, 2277 m, and is very sharply defined in the W, N and E, but in the S (especially west of the Aflenz basin) gradually merges into the offshore low mountain range of the Muerztal Alps. The main rock formers are triadic limestones, which are also the basis of the intensive karstification. Of the subgroups, the karst plateau of the Zeller Staritzen (Zinken, 1619 m) was designated as a sSteiermarkrea because of its size and clear boundaries. (Author: Prof. Mag. Dr. Gerhard Karl LIEB)
